Some folks see the recent events as an opportunity.

It is true that almost half the voters voted for McCain. Theremust be a lot of searching goig on out there. Several hundred years ago, when modern secularism was born, the intellectuals of the time were faced with the issue of what to do about morality with no God. Hey presto! Man is altruistic by nature was their answer, and their morality built around that (borrowed from religion) concept. The viewpoint was handed down to us today and preached by modern liberals and conservatives.

Fascinating reading, John. Thanks for sharing. When I was planning my (alas, aborted) around the world cruise in my yacht back in '90, investigating establishing residency in Vanuatu as a possible new home port was high on my priority list.

Troy, I still have a picture that suggests that you would fit right in there. :) ◄Dave►

Scotland! What an idea. Of all our travels, the very best people we met were the Scots. I like the idea a lot.

We would have to build that wall back up - and install one-way gates (heading South).
I'm ready.

A lot of us have already been down the road of "Galts Gulch."
http://www.newint.org/issue101/phoenix.htm The following article is not pro-Oliver, but does give an historical record of oliver and his attempts to form a new country.
Of interest is the fact that new countries are difficult to establish without guns.

How about Scotland Troy. It would not take much of a push to make them totally independent of the U.K. I know they have a big socialist following in glasgi, but if welfare were not forthcoming that group would probably move to Engalnd. Where else but in the home of Adam Smith would capitalism have a chance. There is little in the way of raw materials except for petroleum off the coast. So it would not represent much of a target for the other European looters. It's biggest asset is the native intelligence and thrift of its inhabitants.

Dae: Thanks for the heads-up RE the Liddy program. I got another notice from the Atlas Society that indicates I can stream the program at: http://www.radioamerica.org/PRG_ggordonliddy.htm.
Yes, I finished Ominous Parallels. While one can see the truth of the notion all around us, the book did not expose enough new thought for me to recommend it.

Dave: You are correct, as usual. Jeannine and I were discussing yesterday, the fact that the signs of our decay and impending collapse are all around us and becoming harder to ignore with each passing day. I would flee the whole mess if only I could figure out where to flee to. The foreign cultures most like our own would seem the best best. However, Britain is leading the way toward self-destruction, Canada is allowed its childish attitude toward life only because of the former adult on their southern border. Ireland is too close to Britain. This leaves Australia and New Zeeland. The latter, due to its small size and relative isolation seems the only potential choice. Even then, having seen the negative effect on their economy caused by changes in Mother Britain, I question the validity of the choice. That leaves Idaho I guess. Perhaps we could make a Galt's Gulch there?

The systematic theft of the senatorial race in Minnesota is something is it not? Another way to comprehend just how far gone we are is the observable fact that the bad guys don't even see the need to try to hide their actions anymore.

You say: "I am through with railing about what I am against, that is no way to inspire a new generation to think like an American. If this is a waste of time, so be it." I reckon it is not a waste of time if it makes you feel better. At the end of the day, you are the only person you have any real influence over.

<blockquote>If you could get enough people of like mind to do any kind of successful succession there would be no need for it. That would be enough people to change the direction of the Republic.</blockquote>

I take your point, John; but I don't trust the electoral process in this land anymore. Too many of us are convinced that our votes are not going to mean squat. Even if we did everything right, and managed to get enough sheeple to turn out to vote our way, the Marxists would just rig the election with ACORN tactics and what is happening in the Coleman / Franken race in Minnesota, where magic extra votes are turning up daily.

Our political system is broke, and beyond repair. Unfortunately, the only hope is to kill it and start fresh, just as our founders did. At this point, almost everyone is sucking on the Federal sow's teats, one way or another. Retirees may be all for cutting off welfare to the indigent, but think nothing of drawing their SSI checks, which they reckon they have coming. We don't, and if I were a young productive man, I would refuse to pay them. We are the ones who kept electing politicians who spent our SSI contributions on current social programs and promised ourselves that our grandchildren would have to keep us in the same manner that we kept our parents, just to buy their votes. Why should they? Look at the mess we left them.

This is going to have to be a John Gault like campaign to talk the producers out of continuing to be fleeced by the moochers. With the coming depression, that job should get easier every day. As Federal Reserve Notes (FRNs) become more and more worthless, local economies based on metal or metal backed barter systems will become attractive to productive citizens. All we have to do is stop using their banks and their currency, and they will have no control over us whatever.

Counties who opt out of the Federal and State systems, and adopt free state ideals with individual sovereignty and the original Constitution as their guiding principle, would boom as producers vote with their feet to move to places where they can thrive, instead of being sucked dry by the moochers. This is already being done in selected locales, and all we have to do is champion the idea to spread it. I still think that the new key is to think in terms of counties instead of States.

Being cut off from the rest of the country would be a blessing, not a significant hardship. When I emigrated to Rhodesia back in '73, they were supposedly "suffering" under United Nations sanctions. Their economy was absolutely thriving, and they were begging for immigrants with talents to come help them build their own infrastructure. Whereas before they had imported toothpaste, now they had to manufacture it themselves, and the economic boom was phenomenal.

Their biggest problem was oil, which they did not produce and had to be purchased on the black market. There were plenty of foreign countries, France chief among them, who gladly helped them in their "sanctions busting" endeavors, because there were huge profits involved in buying Rhodesian nickle, tobacco, wheat, cotton, and other crops, and conversely selling them oil and spare parts for existing machinery, etc. The same would be true here on a smaller scale, and it would be unlikely that neighboring counties would close the roads anyway.

If nothing else, these thoughts give us something to think positive about. People need something to vote or work <em>for</em>... I am through with railing about what I am <em>against</em>, that is no way to inspire a new generation to think like an American. If this is a waste of time, so be it. ◄Dave►

If you can pick up the G. Gordon Libby Show (10 A.M) Eastern time on Monday the 17th you can see a way to reverse the trends.
Thanks for your thoughts Troy. Incidentally did you ever finish the Ominous Parallels?
